About

“Art begins where walls end — in the shared space between hearts.”

The vision of NYA MICHI is inseparably linked to the life path of its creator, Öznur Ünal.

Born out of resilience and the unshakable belief that art belongs to everyone.

Raised in Berlin-Wedding, she worked as a hotel maid while attending life-drawing and still-life classes at the former HdK (today UdK, Universität der Künste Berlin) as a guest student. From early on, her curiosity was drawn to people living at the margins of society.

Her determination showed also in her private life: As a single mother, she earned her advanced secondary diploma through the Volkshochschule, under the most challenging circumstances.

A turning point came when she applied to the University of Design (HfG). At that very moment, while she was developing the first concepts for NYA MICHI, a form of art meant to connect rather than divide — her application was rejected.

That experience deepened her conviction, that no one has the right to decide who may experience art or not.

Art must remain open — accessible, connecting, and without exclusion.
NYA MICHI is the result of that journey

An invitation to see one’s own city with new eyes. Together, curious, and free.
