The Day It Happened

A first glimpse of NYA MICHI in motion

The moment when an idea became reality.

Three orange Qubes transformed an ordinary neighborhood into a living film.

For one afternoon, art stepped out of the museum and onto the street, inviting people to pause, to look, to wonder.

About the Presentation

In October 2025, the first Proof of Concept for NYA MICHI took place in the Senefelder Quarter of Offenbach, Germany.

Three Qubes were positioned at different points within the neighborhood, each containing a screen, sound, and a fragment of a cinematic story.

Visitors moved through the streets to discover how narrative fragments could connect across distance and how curiosity itself could become part of the artistic process.

For one afternoon, familiar places turned into a quiet network of discovery and dialogue. A first exploration of how NYA MICHI will one day transform entire cities through film and participation.

Why Offenbach

Offenbach was chosen because of its diversity, a city where more than 150 nationalities live side by side.

It offered the perfect context to test the project’s participatory essence:

art that doesn’t wait for visitors to enter a museum, but meets them where everyday life unfolds.

The Outcome

The Proof of Concept confirmed the project’s conceptual and emotional strength.

It showed how cinematic storytelling can activate public space and create genuine moments of connection between people.

What began quietly in Offenbach will continue to grow — next in New York City, and later in other cities around the world.

Press Coverage – Offenbach Post

Excerpt from Offenbach Post, October 2025:

"In the Senefelder Quarter of Offenbach, artist Öznur Ünal tested her public-art project NYA MICHI for the first time.

Three Qubes were placed throughout the neighborhood, showing fragments of a science-fiction film that passers-by could discover while walking.

What begins in Offenbach is intended to continue in New York — with around 50 Qubes spread across the city.”

Update — November 2025

After the pilot presentation in Offenbach, NYA MICHI received warm and curious feedback from the local community.
According to the Quartiersmanagement Offenbach, several residents have already asked whether the project might return — perhaps in a larger form.

This response confirms that even a small version of NYA MICHI can create lasting resonance.
